SISSI BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1977, Sissi lives and works in Bologna.
Her work consists in portraying herself, allowing her own body and physical expression to take centre stage in her installations and performances.
The artist works with sculptures, installations and performances with sculptural prostheses constructed by interweaving different materials such as plastics, iron, bamboo and ropes.
She takes possession of the things that surround her, transforming the material into evocative organic forms. Manual work is a determining aspect of her poetic oeuvre, which discovers the vitality of creative expression in “doing”.
In 2002, she won the Furla per l’Arte award. In 2010, she was chosen by the brand to provide a testimonial for the spring-summer 2010 press campaign, adding her own personal contribution to the creative concept.
Her awards include the Gotham Prize from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Italian Institute of Culture of New York (2012 New York), the Rome Prize at the American Academy (2006-7 Rome), and the New York Prize from the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Italian Academy, Columbia University (2005-2006 New York).
